Wagner vs Graco:

A tough competitor of the Wagner brand is Graco. Although Graco is well known for their airless type sprayers, the Wagner remains the champion in the HVLP category. However, Graco products are much more expensive than the Wagner.

According to our experience, Wagner is much more suited for smaller DIY projects such as doors and walls. However, the Graco performs exceptionally well with outdoor projects which are much larger.

Best Wagner Paint Sprayers Detailed Reviews

Wagner 0518050 Control Spray Double Duty Paint Sprayer

Wagner 0518050
Wagner 0518050 Control Spray Double Duty Paint Sprayer
55 / 5
Wagner 0518050 Double Duty Paints Sprayer is one of the first product from Wagner

Our first product from Wagner is the Double Duty Paints Sprayer. Right off the bat, we found it perfect to spray thinner materials such as sealers and varnishes. So, if you wish to spray thicker materials such as Latex, we’d recommend to thin it down to prevent clogging.

We simply loved the three position air cup which allowed us to adjust the spray pattern to our liking. The variable trigger allowed us to vary our spray patterns from a wide range of ½ inch to 9 inches.

The overall performance was quite neat with the sprayer providing a fine and sleek finish to most of our projects. It was easy to use as well; it took us merely 5 minutes to set it up. The best part was perhaps how lightweight it was!

However, we noticed the sprayer performed poorly for painting a horizontal slab, resulting in a lot of splatter and globs. All the parts are easy to disassemble so it took lesser time to clean the unit.

Another drawback was the materials were plastic. Although this does make the product cheaper, it makes it easier to wear. The cord length is 6 feet which are sufficient for painting DIY projects.

Pros

  • Easy to use, clean and control.
  • Can paint small to large spray patterns.
  • Sleek Finish.
  • Lightweight and ergonomic.
  • Has 3 different spray patterns.

Cons

  • Not very sturdy and durable.
  • Performs poorly when aimed downwards.

Comparison with Similar Models:

The Tacklife SGP15AC Advanced Electric Spray Gun is quite similar to this Wagner Model with the three spray patterns and adjustable control. It also uses only thinned paints, however, it is much cheaper. The TackLife model is much harder to clean and cannot be used to paint ceilings.

Wagner 0518080 Control Spray Max HVLP Paint Sprayer

Wagner Spraytech 0518080
Wagner Spraytech 0518080 Control Spray Max Corded Hvlp Paint Sprayer
4.14.1 / 5
The Control Spray Max sprays materials in patterns from 1/2″ to 12″ wide with optimum control and precision making it superior to brushes and spray cans for fine finish work.

The Wagner Control Max HVLP Paint Sprayer is one of the best Wagner Paint Sprayer due to its durable and professional grade material. We found the sprayer handled thicker as well as thinner materials with elegance.

We were pleased to find that the device had a two-stage turbine which means we could paint, prime and stain with relative ease. The adjustable control and the 3 spray patterns ensured precise application!

Furthermore, we found the overall finish to be very smooth with almost little to no clogging issues. What we loved about this sprayer was that we could use paint straight from the can. The 20-foot hose allowed for better maneuverability.

However, we did find an awful lot of overspray with this Wagner. We recommend you carefully tarp and tape over anything you don’t want paint on. This was very annoying and took an hour for us to prep everything up.

Another setback is that the paint cups do not come with lids which meant we had to filter it again and again. Moreover, the cleaning process was harder and time-consuming since we had to clean the hose as well!

  • Versatile application.

Cons

  • Harder to clean.
  • A considerable amount of overspray and splatter.
  • No lids for the paint cups.

The Graco 17A466 TrueCoat 360 DS Paint Sprayer is quite similar to this Wagner paint sprayer. They are both perfect for small-medium sized projects. However, the Graco is much more expensive and has a much shorter hose.

Wagner 0417005 Control Paint Sprayer

The Control Spray applies coatings evenly with control and efficiency.

Another top quality Wagner paint gun, the Control Paint Sprayer was an absolute delight to try out. The gun is very simple and easy to use. We found that it worked best with thinned paints and lacquer.

Perhaps the most mentionable perk of this device is that it can be used in all orientations. This made it easy for us to spray horizontal surfaces and ceilings. The finish was quite smooth, however, we did have some over splatter in the beginning.

The Wagner allowed us to make perfect and detailed patterns using its 3 spray pattern adjustment. The whole setup is extremely lightweight, weighing no more than a standard hair dryer. This allowed us to get the job done without feeling too tired.

However, we did find that the cleanup takes longer than usual. We had to waste 20 minutes trying to clean the cup and the nozzle. Furthermore, we found that the container was too small. We had to refill it quite often.

In addition, we also found that the trigger system was harder to work with as the paint did not come out when you expected it to. Overall, it was the best Wagner Paint Sprayer we tried for smaller projects such as painting cabinet doors and smaller tables.

A close parallel to the Wagner Control Paint Sprayer is perhaps the HomeRight Finish Max Paint Sprayer. It offers a similar kind of flow control and is easy to use as well. It also only works with thinned liquids. However, it is much more durable.

Wagner 0525027 Power Painter Plus

Wagner 0525027
Wagner 0525027 Power Painter Plus
3.93.9 / 5
The Wagner EZ tilt power painter plus features Wagner’s exclusive EZ Tilt flexible suction tube.

Another premium product from Wagner, the Power Painter Plus delivered best in terms of performance. We were absolutely floored by how well it could spray at any angle. This feature is harder to find in most sprayers.

It was much easier to paint decks and ceilings and the sprayer still worked at ½ the capacity. Another eccentric feature we loved was the twist and lock cup. This allowed us to easily remove the cup and put it back on without the fear of leakages.

This Wagner Paint Gun was an all-rounder as we found it performed extremely well with both thinned and unthinned paint. The coverage was pretty decent and uniform as well.

However, we found that the cup was much harder to clean because it had ridges and recesses. It often resulted in clogs. Plus, the cup was too small. We found that we ran out the 1-quart paint in about 5 minutes. So, if you buy this, prepare for a lot of refilling.

Another drawback is that the machine is decently heavy at 6.75 lbs. Adding paint to it makes it even heavier. So we found that our arms tired quite easily. This probably due to the device’s tungsten carbide components which makes it durable, so that’s kind of a stalemate there!

  • Features a twist and lock cup.
  • Versatile application.
  • Uniform coverage.
  • Durable and strong.

Cons

  • Heavier than most other sprayers.
  • Harder to clean.
  • Small cup.

Comparison with Similar Models:

If you feel like you can do with a model that can spray right out of the can, then perhaps the Wagner 0525032 Power Painter Max Airless Paint Sprayer will suit you better. It has a higher capacity and is a little more expensive.

Wagner 0520000 Power Tex Texture Sprayer

Wagner Spraytech 0520000
Wagner Spraytech 0520000 520000 Power Tex Texture Sprayer
44 / 5
The Wagner PowerTex texture sprayer features a built-in air turbine that eliminates the need for a separate air compressor.

The Wagner Power Tex Texture Sprayer is the perfect sprayer for when you need to do textures on the walls. We found it could handle not one or two, but three different textures. We found it a little difficult to get just the right consistency and nozzle setting.

However, when we did, the Wagner Power Sprayer worked like a charm. The unit worked extremely well with vertical walls. However, when we tried using it for ceilings, it failed miserably and made a huge mess.

The unit was, overall, fairly easy to use and easy to set up. However, we were not big fans of the hopper designs. We prefer using a paint cup that is covered. We found it difficult to maneuver it without spilling some paint.

Another setback was that it was quite noisy so we recommend adding earplugs to the cart if you’re buying this. If it was easier to clean, we might have given it a second thought, but sadly no. It took a lot of time to clean the hopper and then the nozzle.

Apart from that, the cord was merely 24 inches, which was very short. So, add an extension cord to the cart while you’re at it! We’d only recommend this for texture spraying on smaller surfaces.

The Wagner Power Tex Texture Sprayer is the perfect sprayer for when you need to do textures on the walls.

Pros

  • Extremely lightweight.
  • Parts are easy to remove and put back on.
  • Powerful pump.
  • Produces 3 different spray textures.
  • Easy to operate.

Cons

  • Harder to clean.
  • Noisy and messy.
  • Small power cord.

Comparison with Similar Model:

If you’re up for a cheaper model then perhaps the Hiltex 31229 Pneumatic Air Texture Spray Gun might take your fancy. However, this model does require an air compressor so if you have one, go for it!
